“Rooftop solar is a tool for communities to leverage for energy democracy, resiliency, and sovereignty. We’re working against monopoly utilities to save rooftop solar and amplify the need for environmental equity in frontline communities”

The Benefits of Rooftop Solar

Energy security

Empowers communities to access clean, low cost and, stable systems for producing electricity.

Resilience

Rooftop solar provides energy through blackouts caused by heatwaves, fires, and other severe weather events.

Provides high-value electricity to working communities.

The closer the source of energy to the user of that energy, the higher the quality is that energy. That makes every use of energy from turning on the lights to watching television more efficient and cheaper.

Lower energy costs for everyone

The sun does not discriminate nor does it send people a monthly invoice. Harnessing the sun’s energy is the cheapest, cleanest, and most efficient energy source that exists.

Economic growth

Green jobs are one of the fastest-growing sectors in the American economy.

Finally,

Peak Reduction

Every year because of severe heat due to climate change electricity usage increase and as a consequence so will the need to use polluting peaker plants. These plants are not well regulated and increase the emission of dangerous pollutants such as NOX, SOX, and particulates. These speaker plants are close or in many of the environmental justice communities that we care about. That reality makes working families vulnerable to health issues such as asthma, strokes, emphysema, heart attacks, and reproductive and developmental issues.

Advancing the growth of rooftop solar is a key element in being able to shut down peaker plants once and for all.
